Red Ball Racing Skullpture

Red Ball Racing Skullpture WIP

16x12"

This a rough block in for a painting of Paul Oz's Red Ball Racing Skullpture which I asked to do as it will be a great test of painting different textures.

This is yesterday's plein air. I added the brooding cloud to reflect the changing weather, the cloud was not actually there but it was starting to go that way. Typical English day in June

Buckler - WIP

Something I have started work on and will complete over a number of days. This is a rough block in which I may add to or just go into colour, depends what I have for breakfast :)

The buckler is a birthday present from a friend who knew I was looking to paint one, I actually picked it myself online. The dagger comes from the same friend who has what can only be called a heroic collection of militaria.

The pear is mine :)

A buckler is a small shield used in days gone by.

View Over Radlett - sold

14x7 3/4"

How the painting looks in a frame (painting is not supplied framed)

Managed to get out yesterday evening and do a plein air painting. This is looking over Radlett, an area just outside London, which is about a twenty minute drive for me. This is not my first plein air painting but it is my fourth and the first I have done outside a one day course I took last year.

I realised ten minutes into the painting I still had my sunglasses on, which is one of a number of lessons I need to learn about painting outside :)

Plate in Light

8x6"

How the painting looks framed (painting is not supplied framed)

Had to paint with my usual W&N paints as I am having trouble adjusting to Michael Harding's paints. This is nothing to do with his paints, which are real nice, but my use of Liquin Light Gel. Harding's paints are the texture out of the tube W&N are after I add Liquin which is leading me to use his paints too thin.

I need to experiment and use Harding's paints without Liquin but I have been painting with liquin and W&N for coming on two years so I am very comfortable with that mix.

Red Shift

8x6"

How the painting looks framed (painting is not supplied framed)

Trying out paintings from Michael Harding which are very nice indeed but I have to adjust to the different nature of the paint. Have almost painted a couple of crackers but messed the up due to the new paint behaving differently, but this one gets through quality control.

Too early to tell if I will go with these new paints will need ore time with the, but first impressions are good.
